William "Duane" Luse

September 26, 1935 — May 22, 2022

William “Duane” Luse, 86, of Topeka, passed away on May 22, 2022 at McCrite Plaza.

He was born September 26, 1935, in Topeka, Kansas the son of Carl Leo and Vera Viola (Wilson) Luse.  Duane was a graduate of Topeka High School in 1953. 

He entered the Army National Guard and served a tour in the Vietnam war.  Duane was active in the National Guard for 36 years, retiring as a Command Sergeant Major, and was a member of the EANGK (Enlisted Association National Guard Kansas) and Special Military Active Recreational Traveler Club.  

Duane was employed for many years by Sound Recording, installing medical and legal transcripition equipment.

Duane enjoyed watching the NFL and Kansas City Chiefs as well as the Kansas Jayhawks.  He also volunteered for Meals on Wheels

He married Allora Ann Burlew on October 7, 1956.  She preceded him in death in 2018.

Survivors include a son, Terry Eugene Luse and wife Karen of Topeka; daughter, Ginger Hogan and husband Harold of Topeka; sister, Carlene Sutton of Brigham City, Utah; grandchildren, Christopher Miller and wife Bobbie of Topeka, Jessica Luse of Topeka, Jaimie Luse of Topeka; great grandchild, Aura Mae Mullin of Topeka.

He was preceded in death by his son, Toby Luse in 2021, parents, and stepmother, Nellie Luse.

Duane will lie in state at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Friday, May 27, 2022, from 12:00pm to 2:00pm, where the family will receive them from 1:00pm-2:00pm.  Funeral services will be 2:00pm at the funeral home.

Burial will be 1:00pm, Tuesday, May 31st, 2022, at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Meals on Wheels or Helping Hands Humane Society Inc. and sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Ave., Topeka, Kansas 66603.
