William Gregory “Greg” Wintle, age 64, of Topeka, KS, passed away on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at Stormont Vail Hospital.
Greg was born the son of William W. and Mary Jane “Janie” (Rezen) Wintle on November 14, 1960, in Iola, KS. He was a proud graduate of Erie High School and went on to attend the University of Kansas, Pittsburg State University, and ultimately earned his Bachelor of Arts from Washburn University.
Greg married the love of his life, Bobbie Jo Stattelman, and together they built a warm and loving home while raising their two sons. Family was always at the center of Greg’s heart, but so too was his deep commitment to serving others.
Greg dedicated his career to advocating for people with disabilities, a mission that became the defining passion of his life. Whether through his roles in local agencies or in his long career with the State of Kansas, Greg was a tireless voice, guardian, and champion for those who too often went unheard. He retired as MR/DD Program Manager for the Department of Social & Rehabilitation Services—Health Care Policy Division, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, fairness, and relentless advocacy. Each day, Greg lived with the belief that everyone deserved dignity, respect, and the opportunity to thrive.
Outside of work, Greg’s joy was found in cheering on his KU Jayhawks and Kansas City Chiefs, supporting his sons at their athletic events, and spending time outdoors. An Eagle Scout, he carried a lifelong appreciation for nature and the lessons it instills. He also enjoyed fishing, golfing, and the camaraderie of good company.
Above all, Greg will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to helping others, his kindness, and his ability to make a difference in countless lives. His life was a living example of service, compassion, and love for both his family and community.
Survivors include his wife, Bobbie Jo; two sons, Robert Wintle and his wife Ashley Hout-Wintle, and Luke Wintle; as well as his beloved grandson, Caden Wintle. Other survivors include his mother, Mary Jane “Janie” Wintle; and his brother, Doug Wintle.
He was preceded in death by his father, William W. Wintle.
