William Herbert Bevan

William Herbert Bevan, 93, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, in Overbrook.

He was born September 27, 1932, in Herington, Kansas, to Olin Kenneth Bevan and Frieda (Jackson) Bevan. William graduated from Herrington High School and went on to serve in the United States Navy during the Korean war.

William worked as a mechanic and owned Bevans Texaco and retired from the U.S. Postal service as a mail carrier. He was a talented painter and artist.

He married Helen Joyce Bailey on April 15, 1965, in Falls City, Nebraska. She passed away in 1976. Jean Tawney later came into William’s life, and was his companion for 38 years, before her passing.

William is survived by his children, Vicki Ellsworth of Idaho Falls, ID, Rosemary Artzer and husband Tom of Horton, KS, Brad Johnson of Leavenworth, KS, Kim Harris and husband Andy of Topeka, Toni Ramirez and husband Mark of Houston, TX, Traci Cole-Mott and husband Donald of Overbrook, KS; 19 grandchildren; over 30 great grandchildren; 2 nieces; and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; companion; son, James Bevan; grandson, Nicholas Ortiz III; sister, Imogene Larrison; nieces, Connie Burch and Susie Larrison.

The family will receive friends from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, with a rosary prayed at 7:30pm, Monday, December 29, at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am, Tuesday, December 30, at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Topeka. Interment will be at 2:00pm, at the Greenton Cemetery, in Odessa, Missouri.
