Warren Joseph Werly, age 101, of Topeka, KS, passed away on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at the Midland Hospice House.
He was born the son of Carl J. and Mary C. (Shea) Werly on December 14, 1921, in Leavenworth, KS.
While attending Augusta High School Warren loved playing tennis and was a member of the tennis team. After graduating in 1940, he worked for Boeing Aircraft in Wichita. As World War II continued, Warren enlisted in the United States Navy in 1944. He was honorably discharged in 1946. On September 25, 1948, Warren married Amy Genevieve “Gen” Lipscomb in Wichita, KS. Together, they shared 66 years of marriage before Gen’s passing in 2015.
Warren was employed with the Mobil Oil Pipeline. After several relocations to various Kansas towns, Warren and Gen settled in Topeka. In 1983, he retired from Mobil Oil after 36 years of employment. Throughout the years, the family enjoyed taking trips and Warren loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed fixing things when broken and had a knack for figuring them out as he was quite the handyman.
Survivors include his two sons, Tim Werly of Topeka, Patrick Werly and his wife Marjorie of Emporia; daughter, Rita Ewing and her husband Brian of Hickory, NC. Other survivors include five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gen Werly; daughter, Francine Werly, and a sister, Jean Peterka.
He will lie in state on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, from 9-10:00 A.M., at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M., at the church. Burial with military honors will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery-Topeka.
Memorial contributions may be made in Warren's memory to Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church or Midland Care Hospice. Contributions may be mailed or left with the funeral home.
