Sharon Ann Munson

November 24, 1949 — June 24, 2025

Topeka

Sharon Ann Munson of Topeka, Kansas, passed peacefully into the presence of her Savior on June 24, 2025, at the age of 75. Born in the Bronx, New York City, on November 24, 1949, to William White Munson and Isabelle Augusta Munson, Sharon’s life was one of hard-won triumphs, unwavering faith, and a deeply devoted love for her children and grandchildren.

Sharon was a fiercely loving mother. When she married in 1980, she became an instant mother to two young boys—Erin and Jonny—and later gave birth to her daughter, Virginia. While her marriage brought deep challenges, Sharon’s love for her children never wavered. They were her pride and purpose.

Though her path was not an easy one, Sharon's life changed profoundly on November 21, 2002, when she placed her faith in Jesus Christ. From that moment forward, her walk with the Lord became her guiding light. She read her Bible daily and filled notebook after notebook with handwritten prayers—testaments to a faith lived authentically and with great devotion. She knew her journey was not defined by where she began or the evils inflicted on her, but by where she was headed—and she was always seeking the Lord's guiding light.

In a life that faced more than its share of storms, Sharon always chose to look toward the light, filling her home with lighthouses and images of lighthouses, creating a safe harbor that reflected both her love and her enduring hope through dark times. She saw lighthouses not just as decorations—but as silent symbols of survival, strength, resilience, guidance, direction, and hope—beacons that pointed her toward the Lord.

Sharon couldn't help but shine her light wherever she was. At her home in Mission Towers, she hosted regular game nights, where her sense of humor and competitive spirit came alive over a card or board game. Sharon loved to play, and in doing so, built bonds of friendship that were as strong and close as family. But when she played, she played to win. And everyone knew it.

At her second home, Fellowship Bible Church, she served with an open heart—greeting attendees, ushering, operating cameras, making crafts, and welcoming everyone she encountered with open arms and a warm hug.

Before retiring, Sharon spent several years as an Office Manager and Union Representative in the recycling industry. When she wasn't working, she was leading a Girl Scouts troop, participating in parent-teacher organizations, coaching her daughter's softball team, and cheering for her beloved Yankees!

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, William and Isabelle. She is survived by her children: sons Erin (Nicky) of Topeka, Kansas, and Jonny (Alicia) of Red Bluff, California; and daughter Virginia of Hiawatha, Kansas. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Sharon is further survived by her sisters Kathy, Diane, and Isabelle, all of Topeka, Kansas; sister Helen of Marathon, Florida; her brother Bill of the Bronx, New York; and an incredible host of people all over the country who called her friend.

Though we mourn her passing, we rejoice in knowing that Sharon is now in the presence of the One she loved most. Her life was a lighthouse—and her light will continue to shine.

A celebration of Sharon’s life will be held on Wednesday, July 9, at Fellowship Bible Church, 6800 SW 10th Ave, Topeka, Kansas. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM with the service at 11:00 AM. Guests are invited to wear their favorite blue jeans in honor of Sharon’s favorite song, Forever in Blue Jeans.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that gifts of new card games, small board games, or puzzles be donated at the service to benefit children and youth in crisis and transition—something Sharon would have loved. The family also asks that any financial gifts be made to LifeHouse Child Advocacy Center, 303 S Kansas Ave #2, Topeka, KS 66603.
