Ruby Mayetta Collins, 71, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away at her home on March 6, 2026.
Ruby was born on January 3, 1955, to Henry and Freddie (Graham) Collins. She graduated from Highland Park High School and later attended Washburn Technical College.
Ruby attended Wanamaker Seventh-day Adventist Church in Topeka. She was a person who valued her independence and lived life in her own way. She found comfort in her daily routines, enjoyed getting out into the community, and took pride in maintaining her home. In her younger years, she also enjoyed playing softball.
Throughout her life, Ruby held a variety of jobs and contributed to her community through her work, including her time as a bus driver for Topeka Public Schools.
Like many lives, Ruby’s journey included both joys and challenges, and she will be remembered in different ways by those who knew her.
She is survived by her son, Russell Washington IV; her brother, Hank Collins; and her grandchildren, Asiah Washington, Dominic Washington, Isiah Washington, Russell Washington V, and Mazikeen Washington.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her son, John William Collins.
Private services will be held at a later date.
