Rose of Lima Ramos, 88, of Topeka, passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at Lexington Park Health and Rehab.

She was born on September 21, 1937, in Topeka, to Francisco V. Vargas, Sr. and Maria V. (Villafranco) Vargas. Rose attended grade school at Our Lady of Guadalupe School, graduated from Hayden High School in 1955, and attended St. Mary’s College. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Washburn University as well as a master’s degree from Kansas State Teacher’s College in Emporia.

Rose was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and was the Fiesta Queen in 1957. She was a officer for Hayden High School class of 1955, and a member of KNEA.

She began her career as a student teacher at Seaman High School. She taught at East Topeka Junior High School, Curtis Junior High, and Hayden High School. She then worked as a guidance counselor at Highland Park Junior High and Topeka High School, retiring in 1999.

Rose loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She found great joy in the arts, dancing, singing, playing the piano, and cooking.

Survivors include her children, Jim Ramos and wife Shelley of Topeka, Robbie Ramos of Topeka, Delphine Anguiano and husband John of Topeka, and Roseanne “Sandy” Steward and husband Ryan of San Tan Valley, Arizona; sister-in-law, Linda Vargas; 22 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, nieces and great granddaughter, Caydence Ramos, and in-laws.

The family will receive friends from 4:00pm to 8:00pm, Tuesday, August 4, at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, with a rosary prayed at 6:30pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am, Wednesday, August 5, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery-Topeka.
