Rose Mary McGrew

Rose Mary McGrew, 85, of Topeka, KS died January 5, 2021 at the University of Kansas Health System St. Francis Campus.

She was born January 28, 1935 in Topeka the daughter of Anthony and Antonina (Gerhardt) Kamer.

Rose was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  She was a 1953 graduate of Hayden High School and enjoyed cooking.

Rose retired in 2017 after 43 years as Office Manager at State Farm Insurance Agency.

On September 16, 1952 in Topeka, KS, she was united in marriage to James C. Barnes, they later divorced.  On September 26, 1980 she married Howard “Bill” McGrew.  He preceded her in death.  She is survived by three sons, David B. Barnes and his wife, Mary Jane of Allen, TX, James M. Barnes and his wife, Judy, of Memphis, TN, John L. Barnes and his wife, Maggie, of Houston, TX and a daughter-in-law, Joann Barnes of Junction City, KS.  A brother, Leo E. Kamer (Rita deceased) of Topeka, two sisters, Regina Yates and her husband, Dale, of Hanna, WY, and Mildred “Millie’ Landry (Normand, Sr. deceased) of Topeka, nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren also survive.  She was also preceded in death by a son, Steven J. Barnes, a sister, Mary Ann Froehler and her husband Donald.

Cremation has taken place.  A Parish Rosary will be prayed at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 11, 2021 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church following the rosary Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m.  Burial of her urn will immediately take place following mass at Mount Calvary Cemetery.  

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions in Rose’s memory to be made to Sacred Heart/St. Joseph Parish sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6^th Avenue, Topeka, KS 66603.
