Robert Eugene Zeller Sr., 82, of Topeka, passed away on April 7, 2019 at the Healthcare Resort of Topeka.
He was born in Topeka, Kansas on March 8, 1937 the son of Cleophus Thomas and Veronica Philomena (Beseau) Zeller.
Robert worked for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber company in Shipping and Receiving as a Clerk until his retirement in 1999 after 37 ½ years of service.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where he was a Eucharistic Minister, taught CCD classes, was a confirmation sponsor and volunteer for the annual Germanfest. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #2608. He enjoyed woodworking and photography and watching westerns on TV. Robert enjoyed going to Harley Davidson with his buddies after masses each week. He will be most remembered as a man of faith who loved his family.
Robert married Sherry Lou Hurd in Perry, Kansas on October 27, 1968. They shared over 50 years of marriage. He is also survived by his children, Mary D. (Chuck) Fanning, Sally (Howard) Sharp, Rich Zeller and Ryan Zeller, his grandchildren, Joy and Mark Fanning, Sara (Ray) Evans and Mark (Krista) McCracken, his siblings, Mary Creel, and Milton (Mina) Zeller, two sisters-in-law, Karen Zeller and Annette Zeller. He was preceded in death by a son Robert E. “Robb” Zeller Jr., two brothers, Ed Zeller and Jim Zeller and a sister, Rose Albright.
Robert will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Thursday after 2:00 p.m. where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 5:30 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus Council #2608 Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. followed by his family receiving friends from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Perry, Kansas.
