Robert Bruce Gonzales

Robert Bruce Gonzales, age 79, of Topeka, KS, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 27, 2023.

He was born the son of John C. and Isabel Marie (VanVoorhis) Gonzales on April 1, 1944, in Topeka. Robert graduated from Highland Park High School in 1963. He was a great athlete growing up and he continued to be active in sports throughout his life, especially with playing slow pitch softball. 

Robert served his country with pride in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. In his spare time, Robert was an avid fisherman. He was a longtime printer for Jostens.

Survivors include his three brothers, Richard Gonzales and his wife Sharon, Albert Gonzales and his wife Andrea, Larry Gonzales and his wife Sharon; as well as his longtime close friend, Joyce Bailey.  Other survivors include numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Barbara M. Schneider and Patricia A. Gonzales; one brother, John Gonzales, Jr., and a nephew, Jon Cabrera. 

Cremation has taken place. 

A graveside service with military honors will take place in the garden chapel at Topeka Cemetery, on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at 11:00 A.M..
