Richard Johnny Perez Jr.

Richard Johnny Perez Jr., 64, of Topeka, passed away on May 2, 2022 at Stormont-Vail Hospital.

He was born in Coffeyville, Kansas on December 29, 1957 the son of Richard Modesto and Victoria (Rodriguez) Perez.  He was a 1975 graduate of Field Kindley High School in Coffeyville and attended Coffeyville Community College where he studied Art.

Richard worked in several industries during his lifetime.  He was a welder/machinist for Allis Chalmers, a Custodian for USD 501 and Washburn University, an Umpire for Topeka Parks and Recreation, a Meat Cutter for Albertson’s Grocery, and most recently as a Caregiver for a Home Health Agency.

He loved watching movies especially comedies and horror movies, fishing, reading, going to concerts, listening to music, playing baseball, and was an avid KU Jayhawk, KC Chiefs, and KC Royals fan.  He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and grilling.

Richard married Diana Ortega whom he later divorced.  They have three sons, Andrew Perez, Lucas (Kimber) Perez, and Justin (Stephany) Perez, four grandchildren; Cena Michael Perez, Jonah Lucas Perez, Ezequiel Grey Perez and Cora Lee Perez.  He is also survived by his siblings, Larry Perez, Patrick (Debra) Perez, Philip Perez and Teresa (Bart) Scheck as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Mark Perez.

His family will receive friends at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 2700 SE Virginia, on Thursday, May 12^th from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m.  A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 6:00 p.m.  Inurnment will be at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6^th Ave, Topeka, Kansas 66603 to assist his family with expenses.

The family requests that KU attire is worn to the services for Richard.
