Richard M. Logan, age 76, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, in Topeka.
He was born the son of Louis and Norma (Burgess) Logan on November 24, 1949, in Jackson, MS. Following high school, Richard enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country during the Vietnam War.
On December 6, 1969, Richard married Maria L. Vasquez at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, and they just celebrated 56 years of marriage. Richard’s career included being a Taxicab Driver, Dishwasher, and longtime Nurse Aide retiring from Colmery-O’Neil VAMC. His hobbies included watching old movies, reading, and cheering on his beloved Kansas City Chiefs. Spending time with family, listening to 60’s rock music, especially Elvis Presley, brought solitude to Richard’s life. His family was his rock and sharing a birthday with his granddaughter, Cianna was always special. His happiest times were celebrating the 4th of July with his family, shooting off fireworks and teaching his grandchildren how to truly fire off Roman Candles. Although a man of quiet nature, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought the spark and joy out of him.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Maria L. Logan; two daughters, Christina M. Pirtle, and Karen A. McNeal and her husband Gary. Other survivors include his cherished grandchildren, Craig Logan, Rian Pirtle, Tavia Soto and her husband Manuel, Gary McNeal, Jr., and his fiancé Cierra Lee, Cianna McNeal, Mylez McNeal; as well as his two great-grandchildren, Leila Soto and Gary McNeal III.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Tina Eileen Logan-King; twin grandsons, Aaron and Allen McNeal; great-granddaughter, Haiti McNeal; sister, Sandra Logan; and a brother, Ronnie Logan.
He will lie in state from 4-8:00 P.M., with a rosary prayed at 6:00 P.M., on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M., on Friday, December 19, 2025, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Burial with military honors will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
