Paul L. Bowers

September 19, 1935 — December 13, 2025

Topeka

Paul L. Bowers, age 90, of Topeka, KS, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, December 13, 2025, in Topeka.

He was born the son of George and Mary (Lape) Bowers on September 19, 1935, in Cape Girardeau, MO. On July 25, 1957, Paul married his beloved wife, Doloris Mendoza, and together, they celebrated 68 years of marriage.

Paul was a man of steadfast hands and a strong work ethic. He spent many years as a foreman with Whelan’s Lumber before later serving the community as a City of Topeka bus driver. In every role he held, Paul worked tirelessly to provide for his family. Even after retirement, his dedication to service continued as he drove a bus for the Boys and Girls Club, a role he enjoyed.

Paul had a deep love for the outdoors and found joy in fishing, hunting, and tending to his garden. His grandchildren and great grandchildren held a special place in his heart, and he faithfully supported each of them in their passions, whether it was racing, music, or sports. In his spare time, Paul enjoyed restoring old trucks, and using his skills and patience to bring them back to life.

Above all, Paul’s greatest joy and proudest accomplishment was the family he and Doloris built together. He will be lovingly remembered for his kindness, generosity, and the warm, welcoming smile he shared so freely with everyone he met.

Survivors include his wife, Doloris Bowers; two daughters, Susanne Oliva (Julian Jr.), and Linda Bowers. He leaves behind his six cherished grandchildren, Matthew Bowers (Christine), Steven Bowers, Jr. (Rhonda), Bryan Bowers (Ashley), Olivia Rose Oliva, Julian Oliva III, David Lucero (fiancé Briona); as well as his seven adored great-grandchildren, Justice, Elena, Sofia, Alex, Gracie, Brinnley, and Laiken.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Steven Bowers, Sr., and Michael Bowers; and ten siblings, Helen, Ora, Ida May, Marie, Virginia, Grace, Billy, Jack, George, and Juanita.

Paul will lie in state on Sunday, December 21, 2025, from 3-6:00 P.M., with a 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus Council #11777 OLG-Nate Morales and 4th Degree San Juan Diego #3452 Rosary and Chalice Ceremony at 5:30 P.M., at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home.
