Orlyn D. Peterson, age 87, of Topeka, KS, passed away with his family by his side on Tuesday, March 16, 2021.
Orlyn was born the son of George and Myrtle (Lalim) Peterson on June 20, 1933 in Holland Township, Minnesota. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
On April 29, 1961, Orlyn married Mary Deters in Manhattan, KS. Together, they shared almost 60 years of marriage.
He was a member of Mater Dei Assumption Catholic Church. In his younger days, Orlyn enjoyed to fish with his father in Minnesota. He also liked to hunt deer, turkey and would enjoy many years of hunting with his good friends, Randol Walker, Cecil Rothers and all their hunting dogs. Orlyn would spend his free time at Randol’s farm, fixing farm equipment and enjoying the company of his friends. His other hobbies included, gardening and planting flowers.
Survivors include his beloved wife of the home, Mary Peterson; daughter, Michelle Peterson of Seabrook Island, South Carolina; daughter, Lisa Peterson and her husband M.A. Wahab of Frisco, Texas; one brother, Leon Peterson and his wife Jan of Paynesville, Minnesota; two sister-in-laws, Edna Peterson and Sharrie Peterson; three nieces, Darlene Jensen and her husband Eric, Rhonda Lund and her husband Greg, Cindy Zimmerman and her husband Kirby; nephews, Lonnie Peterson and his wife Dina and nephew, Vern Bulk.
He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Cheryl Peterson; brothers, Kermit and Earl Peterson; and a niece, Kimberly Bulk.
Orlyn will lie in state at Mater Dei Holy Name Catholic Church on Saturday, March 20, 2021 from 9:30-10:00 A.M., followed by a parish rosary at 10:00 A.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. Cremation will take place after the services and inurnment will take place in June at Mt. Calvary Cemetery with Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Mater Dei Parish. Contributions can be mailed or left with the funeral home.
