Norman L. Benoit

November 15, 1950 — June 22, 2021

Norman L. Benoit, age 70, of Topeka, KS, passed away on Tuesday, June 22, 2021, at the Stormont Vail Hospital.

He was born the son of Leon and Dorothy Benoit on November 15, 1950, in Lynwood, CA.

Norman served his country with pride in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. On March 20, 1971, he married Cheri Zerbe in Las Vegas, NV. She passed away on October 3, 2000, after 29 years of marriage.

He received his bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Washburn University. He retired as a Pipefitter after 37 plus years from the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. He was a member of the United Steel Workers, Local #307. Norman enjoyed gardening and was an avid reader of Western and Sci-Fi novels. From an early age, he was involved with raising and racing homing pigeons. Pigeon racing remained a life long passion. He was an active member of the Topeka Racing Pigeon Club.

Survivors include his daughter, Lana Benoit; daughter, Gina Blenden and her two daughters, Baylei and Brynn Sharpe; one brother, Robert Benoit and his wife Suzanne; three sisters, Mary Boos and her husband Larry, Therese Benoit, Denise Walsh and her husband Harold.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Cheri; and a sister, Yvonne Benoit.

Visitation will be held at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Thursday, July 1, 2021, from 5-8:00 P.M.

A graveside service will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery on Friday, July 2, at 10:00 A.M.

Memorial contributions can be made in Norman's memory to the Topeka Racing Pigeon Club and/or to the Wounded Warrior Project. Contributions can be left or mailed to the funeral home.
