Nina M. Mendoza, age 83, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, in Carbondale, Kansas.
She was born on December 9, 1942, to Paul and Nina (Gray) Humbert. Nina built a life defined by strength, independence, and unwavering devotion to her family. She dedicated more than 30 years of service to Garlinghouse Printing, retiring as a Supervisor after a long and accomplished career.
On September 22, 2000, she married the love of her life, Peter Mendoza, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Together they shared 23 wonderful years of marriage before Peter’s passing in 2024.
Nina was truly the matriarch of her family, the steady foundation, and guiding voice for generations. She led with honesty and conviction, never hesitant to speak her mind, yet always ready to offer love, wisdom, and unwavering support. Her presence commanded respect, but her heart held endless devotion for those she loved.
She had a zest for life that was unmatched. Nina enjoyed reading, shopping, and proudly collecting pig figurines, building an impressive collection over the years. She was never content to sit still and embraced adventure wholeheartedly. From camping trips and road trips to exploring 49 of the 50 states and traveling internationally, she lived boldly and fully. Above all, time spent with family was what brought her the greatest joy. The memories, lessons, traditions, and unconditional love she shared will continue to guide her family for generations.
She is survived by her three daughters, Theresa Courtwright and her husband Chris, Cindy Thompson and her husband Brent, and Christina Bronson; her son, Louis Padilla; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Richard Kendall.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Peter; her sister, Paula Kendall; her brother, James Humbert; and her grandson, Brad Padilla.
Visitation will be held from 10-11:00 A.M., with the funeral service following at 11:00 A.M., on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at Carbondale Community UCC, 104 S. 4th St., Carbondale, KS 66414. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery-Topeka.
Memorial contributions can be made in Nina's memory to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.
