Nancy Jean Severin

July 11, 1945 — September 18, 2026

Topeka

Nancy Jean Severin, 81, of Topeka, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 18, 2026, at Cedarhurst Senior Living of Topeka.

Nancy was born July 11, 1945, in Axtell, Kansas, to Anthony F. “Tony” Spielman and Josephine B. (Stegeman) Spielman. She attended grade school in Oneida, Kansas, and graduated from Saints Peter and Paul Catholic High School in 1963.

Throughout her life, Nancy worked for Harsh Drug Store, C&R in Seneca, the KBI, and the Kansas Racing Commission for the State of Kansas. She was affectionately given the nickname “Fancy Nancy” by the children of a Meals on Wheels volunteer, a name that was a special part of who she was.

Nancy was a devoted Catholic and a longtime member of Christ the King Catholic Church. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and caregiver who always found joy in caring for the people around her. Her family was at the center of her life, and some of her happiest moments were spent simply being together.

Nancy also enjoyed taking trips to the store, gardening, and the little everyday moments that brought her happiness. She had a way of making ordinary moments special and will be remembered for the love and care she gave so freely to her family.

Nancy married Joseph Francis Severin on September 12, 1964, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca. They shared 31 years together before his passing in 1995.

Nancy is survived by her son, Rodney Severin of Kansas City, Kansas; grandchildren, Claire Severin of Mission, Kansas, and Madelaine Hoffa of Kansas City, Missouri; great-grandchildren, James Hoffa and Millie Hoffa of Kansas City, Missouri; and brother, Don Spielman of Topeka, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Joseph; cherished companion, Walter Clark; son, Darren D. Severin; and her sisters, Shirley Beets and Betty Fisher.

Nancy will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew and loved her. Her memory will live on through the many lives she touched with her kindness, care, and love.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., followed by a rosary at 10:30 a.m. and a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 25, at Christ the King Catholic Church. Interment will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Topeka, Kansas.

Memorial contributions should be made to Meals on Wheels or Mary’s Choice sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Ave. Topeka, KS 66603.
