Mary L. Thompson

August 24, 1924 — February 25, 2026

Topeka

Mary L. Thompson, age 101, of Topeka, KS, passed away peacefully after a long life built on family and faith on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, in Topeka.

She was born the daughter of Edwin and Mary (Wright) Keen on August 24, 1924, in Topeka, Kansas. Mary graduated from Capital Catholic High School. On May 29, 1946, she married her beloved husband, Thomas Thompson Sr., in Topeka. Together they built a beautiful life and shared 58 years of devoted marriage before Thomas’s passing on September 11, 2004.

Mary was the heart of her family and the true matriarch of the Thompson household. While Thomas worked long days to provide, Mary faithfully tended to the home, raising their children with unwavering love, strength, and quiet determination. She created a home that was always warm, welcoming, and full of life. Her kitchen was the gathering place, where the aroma of apple pies, fresh cookies, cinnamon rolls, and countless homemade meals wrapped the family in comfort. Her baking was not simply food, it was an expression of love.

A devoted homemaker, Mary took immense pride in every detail of her home. Having grown up during the hardships of the Great Depression, she valued hard work, discipline, and gratitude. Her yard was a reflection of that pride, kept neat and meticulous, often with the help of her children pulling weeds on weekends under her watchful eye. Through sewing, crocheting, gardening, and caring for her family, she built a legacy of devotion that will continue for generations.

Her Catholic faith was the foundation of her life. A faithful member of Mater Dei Holy Name Catholic Church, Mary’s trust in God guided her through every season, shaping the strong, loving matriarch her family will forever cherish.

Survivors include her five beloved children; son, David Thompson and his wife Vickie; daughter, Kathleen Mason and her husband Bruce; son, Thomas Thompson, Jr., and his wife Kim; son, Joseph Thompson; and son, John Thompson and his wife Corrie. Mary also leaves behind numerous loving grandchildren; great-grandchildren and extended family as well as one sister, Sauda Kim.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband; and five siblings.
