Mary B. Hanson, age 84, of Rossville, KS passed away on Monday, May 13, 2024.
She was born the daughter of Cyrus Oral Stone (father) and Mona Isabelle Stone Cunningham (mother) on March 25, 1940, in Mankato, KS. She attended school in Mankato, KS where she met the love of her life, Lloyd L. Hanson. The high school sweethearts married on May 26, 1957, in Mankato. Together they celebrated 66 years of marriage.
Mary had many hobbies, including puzzles, playing board games or card games, and reading, but it was her love of music which most shaped her life. Mary was an extremely proficient pianist and organist. Before becoming a faithful Christian herself, Mary was asked to be the pianist for a local church. She played nearly every service and funeral at the Burr Oak Nazarene Church for nearly three decades. If the doors were open, you would find Mary at the organ or piano. Through this position she came to find her faith and love God. A faith she passed on to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Along with her work as a musician, Mary also worked many different jobs, including being a secretary for the local Methodist church. But primarily, Mary was a caring farmwife. Mary and Lloyd lived on their farm in Mankato for most of their lives. They raised cattle, pigs, and chickens, while also farming 1700 acres of wheat and hay. Mary always wanted to meet the needs of those around her and did so primarily through food. She was well known for having more than enough dinner prepared, and it routinely led to extra dinner guests who would simply drop by for a meal. There was always a full table at the Hanson’s farm. We are rejoicing with her as she is now reunited with her sweetheart, Lloyd.
She was preceded in death by her father, Cyrus Oral Stone, mother, Mona Isabelle Stone, and siblings: Glenn Stone, Opal Stone, Corrine Muskgrove, Kenneth Stone, Maxine Countrymen, and Carolyn Fall.
Survivors include her son, Marshall Hanson and his wife Cindy; three daughters, Crystal Brenneman and her husband Robert, Kathie Smith and her husband Stephen, Carmen Weyrauch and her husband Dennis. Other survivors include her 15 grandchildren, Jeremy (Stephanie) Brenneman, Jeff Smith, Angelia (Phil) Burkhart, Ginger (Keil) Jahr, Christy Hanson, Darin Brenneman, Ashley (Donnie) Hanson, Brittany (Jeff) Stilley, Myranda (Michael) Lowe, Breanna (Rustin) Dowd, Megan (Caleb) Laird, Tori Smith, Brian (Josie) Hanson, Brady (Leighann) Weyrauch, and Tanner Weyrauch; as well as 35 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M., on Monday, June 10, 2024, at Burr Oak Church of the Nazarene, 212 Jewell St., Burr Oak, KS 66936.
Mary and Lloyd will be laid to rest at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Mankato, KS.
