Martha Mary (Urban) Devlin, age 99, of Topeka, KS, passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at Lexington Park Assisted Living Facility.
She was born the daughter of Michael G. and Matilda F. (Gibler) Urban on June 11, 1923, in Topeka, KS.
Martha married James “Jim” M. Devlin on February 17, 1947, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. They shared 47 years of marriage before Jim’s passing on February 20, 1994. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and later a member of Assumption Catholic Church.
Martha was a fulltime mom, raising four children. She loved being outside, mowing and tending to her flowers. She was an excellent cook and decorator inside and outside of her home. Her and Jim loved to travel with the family in their younger years and travel together once the kids had grown up. Always ready for a road trip with sometimes not a destination in mind, Martha loved a car ride, exploring the western United States with many trips to Colorado and later to the Lake of the Ozarks.
Although we are saddened by her passing, we take comfort that she was able to spend 99 years on this earth. She will be dearly missed.
Survivors include her four children; son, James M. Devlin II; daughter, Janet M. Pierce and her husband David; son, Harry M. Devlin; and daughter, Deborah A Devlin and her husband, Jim Cromwell. She is also survived by her six beloved grandchildren, Lyila Stroup, Camrhan Devlin, Nathaniel Devlin, Luke Devlin, Chalece Sindorf, Alahnna Mendez; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jim Devlin; two grandsons, Eli Devlin and Harry Devlin II; sister, Virginia Burghart; and a brother, Michael “Charlie” Urban.
Martha will lie in state from 9:00 A.M. to 10:30 A.M., followed by a parish rosary at 10:30 A.M., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Monday, February 6, 2023. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. at the church. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery-Topeka.
