Marlene Kaeberle (Oberst), 92, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2024, at Little Sisters of the Poor in Kansas City, Missouri. A former resident of Topeka, Kansas, Marlene was born on November 27, 1931, in Chicago, Illinois, to John G. and Lucille Oberst (Degan).
After completing her primary education in the Chicago area, Marlene went on to earn a bachelor's degree in elementary education from the University of Saint Mary. She dedicated over four decades to teaching elementary-aged children in the Archdiocese of Kansas City, Kansas, spending the final two decades of her career teaching first grade at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic School. Even after retiring in 1996, Marlene continued her passion for working with children as a paraprofessional in the Archdiocese until 2012.
In 1970, she married Bernard Kaeberle. They had one daughter, Jean “Jeanie” Kaeberle. Marlene was preceded in death by her husband in 2008. She was also preceded in death by both her parents and her younger sister, Joanna. She is survived by her daughter, Jeanie, of Roeland Park, Kansas, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Marlene had a deep faith and was an Associate member of the Sisters of Charity in Leavenworth. She was also an active member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Parish for many years.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff and care team at Little Sisters for the exceptional care they provided Marlene during her final years.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Little Sisters of the Poor in Marlene's memory.

A visitation with the family will be from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, Wednesday, September 11, at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am, Thursday, September 12, at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Topeka, Kansas.
