Margaret Ann Reed

Margaret Ann “Marge” Reed, 94, passed away on September 7, 2025, in Topeka, Kansas.

She was born on August 21, 1931, in Amboy, Illinois, the youngest of four daughters to Leon and Mary Clark Lauer.

Marge grew up in Amboy and graduated from Amboy High School in 1949.

She married John Warren Reed on October 17, 1951. Shortly after they were married, the couple moved from Amboy to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and many cities after that, before settling in Topeka, Kansas in 1970.

After being at home for 28 years and raising five children, Marge was employed by Educational Reading Services, the Kwik Shop office, and the Menninger Foundation in 1998, where she retired from after 12 years.

Marge was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, and enjoyed reading, playing cards, and attending the theater as well as concerts. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society.

She is survived by her five children: Mary Ca Ralstin of Lenexa, Kansas; J. Philip Reed of San Antonio, Texas; Patti Lou Van Slyke, Topeka, Kansas; Paul Reed and wife Mary Anne of Folsom, California; and Noelle Resch and husband Scott of Topeka, Kansas; ten grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Marge was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, and husband, John Warren Reed, in 2004.

A visitation with the family will be 6:00pm to 8:00pm, Thursday, September 11, with a rosary prayed at 7:30pm at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am, Friday, September 12, at Christ the King Catholic Church, with inurnment following at Mt. Calvary Cemetery-Topeka.
