Lorene H. Stephenson

Lorene H. Stephenson, 92, of Topeka, passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at Rolling Hills Assisted Living.

She was born September 12, 1934, in Lyndon, Kansas, to Alvin and Mary (Mathey) Dlugosh. Lorene graduated from Lyndon High School in 1952. After high school she met Jimmy Dean Stephenson. They married on March 6, 1954, in Lyndon. They celebrated 59 years together, before his passing in 2013.

Lorene was a dedicated homemaker. She worked as a transcriptionist for Southwestern Bell until her daughter was born. She worked on the election board for Shawnee County for over 20 years.

She enjoyed playing bingo, watching TV, and going to the casino.

Survivors include her children, Scott B. Stephenson and wife Debra, Kelly R. Lyda; grandchildren, Brittany Moranz and husband Ryan, Lakyn Stephenson, Leslie Hart and husband Krys, Cody Lyda and wife Kylie; great grandchildren, Teagan Moranz, Zoey Hart, Tatum Moranz, Easton Jackson, Crosby Hart, Xander Jackson, and Collins Lyda.

Lorene was prededed in death by her husband, parents; and brothers, Alvin “Raymond” Dlugosh, and Frederick Dlugosh.

Lorene will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Saturday, October 10, 2026, where her family will receive friends from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. Funeral services will follow at the funeral home at 10:00 A.M. Interment will follow in the American Cemetery in Osage City, Kansas.
