Leo Alejos, age 88, of Topeka, KS, passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at The Lodge at Heritage Grove in Topeka.
Leo was born on February 5, 1938, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Jose Sergio and Felicitas (Monasterio) Alejos. He attended Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic School and graduated from Hayden High School in 1956. Following graduation, Leo proudly served his country in the United States Navy before receiving his honorable discharge. He later returned to Topeka, where he began raising his family.
For many years, Leo worked as a machine operator in the optical production industry. A hardworking and talented man, he took great pride in being a self-taught mechanic, spending much of his younger years repairing and painting cars. He was always willing to take on an extra job to help provide for his family.
In his free time, Leo enjoyed drawing, playing horseshoes, listening to golden oldies, and cheering on his beloved Kansas City Chiefs and KU Jayhawks. Above all, family was at the center of his life. Growing up in a large family, Leo cherished the tradition of gathering together on Sundays after church. These gatherings, filled with good food, laughter, and time spent with loved ones, created memories he held dear throughout his life.
Leo will be remembered for his strong work ethic, devotion to his family, and the simple joys he found in spending time with those he loved.
Survivors include his children, Gregory Alejos, Laura Schwerdt, and Tony Alejos. Leo leaves behind his grandchildren, Garrett Alejos and Jordan Schwerdt-McCardwell and her husband Drew. Other survivors include his siblings, Anna Decker, Richard “Joe” Alejos (Maxine), Bobby Alejos, Henry Alejos (Jolly), Philip Alejos; brother-in-law, Freddy Fontane; and sister-in-law, Lee Alejos.
