Jose P. Hernandez, 70, of Topeka, passed away on August 2, 2021 at Providence Hospital.
He was born in Topeka, Kansas on April 10, 1951 the son of Pedro and Santos (Gutierrez) Hernandez.
He attended Kaw Area Vocational Technical School where he studied Graphic Arts. Jose was retired from Mainline Printing where he worked in Prepress and Layout.
Jose was a member of St. Joseph/Sacred Heart Parish where he was a Eucharistic Minister, Lector and Greeter, and did perpetual adoration. He was a former member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church where he was a handyman and volunteer around the church and for anyone who needed assistance. Jose was also a Fiesta volunteer.
He enjoyed cooking, fishing, hunting, and golfing where he served as past president of the Lake Shawnee Men’s Club.
Jose was active in the Knights of Columbus Council #2608 and the James W. Gibbons Assembly of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus where he served as Past Grand Knight, Faithful Navigator and Color Commander. He was also past president of the Printing House of Pressman.
Jose married Julie Frost in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 1, 1985. She survives. He is also survived by two dogs, Bella and Blondie and a cat Romeo and his siblings. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Santos Hernandez.
Jose will lie in state at St. Joseph on Saturday, August 7th after 9:00 a.m. where a rosary will be prayed by the Parish and the Knights of Columbus at 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
