José Antonio Blanco

José Antonio Blanco, 67, of Topeka, KS died unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, October 26, 2021.

He was born January 14, 1954, in Topeka, KS the son of Jesse and Felipa (Alonzo) Blanco.

José was baptized and a member of the Northland Christian Church.  He retired from the State of Kansas after 14 years.  Jose worked various other jobs ranging from the Topeka Capital Journal, Hallmark Cards, the Shawnee County Corrections Facility, the Topeka Public Library, Jay Shidler Elementary School and lastly, Architect One. 

A sports and music enthusiast, José enjoyed attending Kansas State football games and live music performances. He was a beloved friend to many. José loved his grandchildren and his son, Brandon, was his best friend. He lived more in his 67 years of life than many others could in 100 years. Shine on you crazy diamond.

Jose was married to Janis Shumaker, they later divorced. He is survived by a son, Brandon Blanco and his wife, Whitney, a brother, Juan, a sister, Joyce and three grandchildren, Allyson Cummings, Addelynn Cummings and Tatum Blanco. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ricardo Blanco.

Family will receive friends on Friday, November 5, 2021 from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M., at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home.  

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., on Saturday, November 6, 2021, at the funeral home. Burial of his urn will take place at a later date at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Topeka. The family requests that those planning on attending the service dress to honor José by dressing casually. For example, wear a favorite concert or band T-Shirt.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations made to TARC sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Avenue, Topeka, KS 66603.
