Joan Brosemer, 70, of Topeka, passed away on September 10, 2020 at her home.
She was born in Topeka, Kansas on May 24, 1950 the daughter of Martin Z. and Catalina (Juarez) Ortiz.
Joan worked for Hallmark Cards for 17 years. She then worked at Washburn University in food service and most recently was a care giver for her great grandchildren.
Joan was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and her faith and family were very important to her. She was always taking care of others and many would go to her for advice. She enjoyed dancing, music especially 50’s and 60’s music, watching tv, cheering on the Broncos, and the CASINO and BINGO.
She married Larry Dean Brosemer on June 22, 1967 in Topeka, Kansas. They shared 53 years of marriage and he survives her. She is also survived by her mother, Catalina Ortiz, two sons, Lawrence (Sheri) Brosemer and Anthony Brosemer (Tammy Sund), four sisters, Margaret Cardona, Linda Ortiz, Maxine Ortega, Estella Ortiz, one brother Martin (Mary) Ortiz Jr., five grandchildren, Salia (Joshua) Potter, Danielle Brosemer, Brandon-Michael Brosemer (Catherine Flory), Devon Brosemer and Nicholas Brosemer, and seven great grandchildren, Denzel, Dashton, Olivia, Coraline, Corrine, AmberRaine, and Cash. She was predeceased by her father, Martin Ortiz.
Joan will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. where her family will receive friends. A Rosary will be prayed on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by funeral services at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Attendees are required to wear face masks and use social distancing.
Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Ave., Topeka, Kansas 66603 to assist her family with expenses.
Her services will be video taped and available on the website the following day.
