James Michael Jenkins

James Michael Jenkins passed away at his home on July 18, 2026.

He was born November 27, 1957, at the Fort Rucker US Army Hospital in Daleville, Alabama, the son of Gerald and Lois (Balding) Jenkins.

Jim graduated from Highland Park High School in 1976 and attended Washburn University. He worked at Safeway Grocery Store for several years as a stocker and clerk.

He experienced health problems early in his life which prevented him from living the fullest and active life he desired. Among many interests, Jim was an avid toy collector. His special joy was to attend estate sales to find super bargains to give to his friends and family. Jim was a KU fan. Anyone who met Jim, loved him. Jim cherished time with friends and family.

While Jim is survived by many relatives in Northeast Kansas, his most beloved family were of the Bierly, specifically Kirk, Jim’s lifelong friend, and Steinert families and his good friend Kevin Anderson. Maribeth (Steinert) Smith and Matthew Steinert were his chosen niece and nephew.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald Thomas and Martha Lois (Balding) Jenkins.

A memorial service will be held at 1pm followed by celebration of Jim’s life, Saturday, August 8, at the South Village Mobile Home Park Club House, 3647 SE South Village Parkway, Topeka, KS 66609, and friends are welcome to stay and visit following the service until 3pm.
