James F. “Jim” Humpolick, 68, of Dyersburg, Tennessee, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, August 21, 2025, in Topeka, Kansas.
Jim was born in Limestone, Maine, to Meredith E. “Mary” (Barnett) Humpolick and James Edward Humpolick.
He graduated from West Branch High School in Ohio and married Janette Kay “Jan” Trump on October 29, 1983 in Homeworth, Ohio. They often road-tripped National Parks in their Mustang. Two years ago they hiked the “Narrows” in Zion National Park.
A long time project engineer, Jim’s travels for work included Kansas, Oklahoma, N. Carolina ànd Pennsylvania as well as Russia, Ukraine, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Canada and China. Jim had a passion for engine rebuilding and the tractor pulling world. He still owns The Privateer, his first diesel pulling tractor.
Jim was an avid reader, storyteller and Nascar follower. As a loving father, he could be stern but always approachable. Jim is deeply grieved by his family and the Goodyear community, his “family of the heart.”
Survivors include his wife Jan and son Jared of Tennessee, daughter Diana of N. Carolina, sister “Skosh” Schmidt of Texas, sister Gay Stahl (Phil), nephews Michael (Jen) and Jason (Kendra) Schmidt, all of Ohio, and nephew Jake (Victoria) Stahl of N. Carolina with 3 great-nieces and 4 great-nephews among them.
Jim was preceeded in death by his parents, loved stepfather Keith Yarian, brother John Humpolick and adopted sister Lisa Yarian.
Celebrations of Life are being planned for September in Tennessee, and October for Topeka and Ohio.
Memorial contributions are suggested to St Jude’s Children's Hospital and Make a Wish Foundation.
