James Harry Frantz

James “Jim” Harry Frantz, 69, of Topeka, passed away on Monday, May 13, 2024, at his home.

Jim was born September 8, 1954, in Topeka, the son of George E. Frantz and Ruth Alberta (Hankamer) Frantz. He graduated from Highland Park High School and went on to attend Washburn University.

He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren, and enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and yard work.

Jim worked for Whelan’s, later sold to McCray Lumber. He worked in numerous positions, which included store manager and yard foreman/dispatcher over a 51-year career.

He married Mary Catherine Rutherford on May 21, 1977. They celebrated 46 years together. Mary survives at the home.

Other survivors include his children, Kelly Frantz-Langford (James) of Lawrence, Jacob Frantz of Olathe, Anna Frantz (Bilal Farhat) of Kansas City; siblings, Bessie Dosch, Pam Johnson (Dave), Nancy Sharpe (Carey); grandchildren, Jackson Langford, Jordan Langford, Jacinta Langford, Mariam Farhat, and Lanna Farhat.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, brother Gary Frantz, and brother-in-law Don Dosch.

A rosary will be prayed at 5:30pm, followed by a visitation with the family from 6:00-8:00pm, Friday, May 17, at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am, Saturday, May 18, 2024, at St. Matthew Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
