Howard L. Brun

August 24, 1942 — November 28, 2025

Topeka

Howard L. Brun, age 83, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 28, 2025, at Oakley Place in Topeka.

Howard was born the son of Frederick Howard and Ila Mae (Eaton) Brun on August 24, 1942, in Greenleaf, Kansas. On January 19, 1963, he married the love of his life, Marcia Hogan, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Kimeo, KS. Together, they shared 62 years of devotion, partnership, and adventure.

Howard’s spirit of adventure began early and remained with him his entire life. He worked tirelessly to support his family, often relocating as needed, always placing their well-being first. At home, Howard found joy in the simple things — a perfectly cared-for lawn, tinkering in his garage, and quiet evenings spent on the porch with Marcia by his side.

But nothing brought Howard more peace or freedom than the open road beneath his motorcycle. Riding was his escape, his therapy, his way of embracing the world around him. When life grew busy, he would turn to the open highway, letting the wind, scenery, and hum of the engine clear his mind. He and Marcia explored countless miles together across the United States, yet the winding roads of Northwest Arkansas remained his favorite — a place where he felt most connected to the beauty of nature and the joy of the ride.

Howard also had a deep appreciation for music, a loyal passion for his K-State Wildcats, and a genuine love for time spent with his family. These were the things that grounded him and filled his life with happiness.

Howard will be remembered as a devoted husband, a devout man of faith and parishioner of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, a hardworking provider, and a man who embraced life with both grit and grace — especially when he was on his motorcycle, riding toward the next horizon.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Marcia Brun; three sons, David Brun and his wife Christina, Darin Brun and his wife Mary Pat, and Delton Brun and his wife Sarah; as well as his six grandchildren, John, Benjamin, and Cole Brun, Emily Brun, Haley Gobert and her husband Nick, and Alexandria Cole and her husband J.J. Other survivors include six great-grandchildren, Max & Cy Gobert, Natalie, Joseph, and Jordan Brun, and Mae Cole; one brother, Jeff Brun and his wife Sue; one sister, Martha Durst.

Visitation will be held from 10-11:00 A.M., on Monday, December 15, 2025, at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. A funeral service will be held following the visitation at 11:00 A.M., at the church. Howard will be laid to rest following the services at Mt. Calvary Holy Trinity Mausoleum, Topeka.
