Helen T. Benton

Helen T. Benton, age 85, of Ozawkie, KS, passed away with her family by her side on Monday, October 10, 2022, at the Midland Hospice House.  

She was born the daughter of Francis and Henrietta (Schuetz) Werner in Fidelity, KS in rural Brown County on November 30, 1936. 

On October 24, 1959, Helen married Jack L. Benton, Jr., at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Fidelity. Together, they shared 42 wonderful years of marriage. Jack passed away on February 21, 2002.  

Helen was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church as well as a secretary for Sacred Heart Grade School for many years. She enjoyed golfing, gambling, K-State sports and spending time with her family. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Altar Society and Activities Club and the Women’s Golf Club (19th Hole) at Lake Perry. In her younger years, she loved raising her family and attending all her daughter’s activities. Helen will always be the original “Benton Girl.” 

Survivors include her beloved daughters, Sheila McGivern and her husband John, twin daughters, Sharon Geist and her husband Paul, Karon Lee and her husband Robert; six grandchildren, Gena, Erica, Austin, Benton, Melissa, and Clint; as well as 11 great-grandchildren. Her brother, Sonny Werner and his wife, Ireta also survive.  

She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Jack L. Benton, Jr.; twin brother, Melvin and older brother, Joe Werner.  

A parish rosary will be held on Thursday, October 13, 2022, at 5:30 P.M., with visitation to follow and conclude at 8:00 P.M., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 P.M., on Friday, October 14, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery-Topeka.  

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Helen's memory to Holy Family Catholic School. Contributions can be mailed or left with the funeral home.
