Frieda M. Schmidtlein

Frieda M. Schmidtlein, age 96, of Topeka, KS, passed away on Monday, June 16, 2025, at Celebration Villa of Hearthstone in Topeka.

She was born on December 7, 1928, in Hays, KS, the daughter of John and Catherine (Boos) Boos.

Frieda was employed at Southwestern Bell and retired with 22 years of service on December 31, 1983. She was a lifetime member of Telephone Pioneers.

She was a long-time member of Sacred Heart Church, and an active member of Sacred Heart Altar Society.

Frieda graduated from Topeka Capitol Catholic High School in 1946.

She met the love of her life, Vincent DePaul Schmidtlein in high School, and at Sacred Heart Church. They were married August 19, 1947, and were married for 66 ½ years.

Survivors include her children, James and wife Debbie Schmidtlein, Sue Heller, Mary and husband Brad Sedlacek, and Steve Schmidtlein, all of Topeka; 17 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; 2 brothers-in-law, Bernard Schmidtlein, and John Guth; 2 sisters-in-law, Jean Schmidtlein and Jan Schmidtlein. She also leaves behind a loving extended family that includes numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Vincent; parents; sister, Jean Guth; brother, Don Boos and wife Joan Boos; son-in-law, Larry Heller; sister-in-law, Louise Schmidtlein; and brothers-in-law, Andrew Schmidtlein and Gregory Schmidtlein.

Frieda will lie in state on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 from 9-10:30 A.M., followed by a parish rosary at 10:30 A.M., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 312 NE Freeman Ave., Topeka, KS 66616. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M., at the church. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery-Topeka.

Memorial contributions can be made in Frieda’s memory to Sacred Heart-St. Joseph Parish and/or Ascend Hospice. Contributions can be mailed or left with the funeral home.
