Donna J. Neu, age 91, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 18, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family and in the comfort of her faith.
She was born on June 28, 1934, in Burlingame, Kansas, the daughter of Ernest B. and Anna Mae (Sturm) Sage. After graduating high school, Donna married the love of her life, Delton Neu, on October 26, 1952, in Burlingame. Together they shared 53 devoted years of marriage before Delton’s passing on December 23, 2005.
Donna will be remembered for her deep love of family, her unwavering faith, and the beauty she brought into the world through her immaculate garden and beloved hybrid tea rose bushes. She took great joy in nurturing her flowers and spending time with her grandchildren, who were her greatest earthly blessing. In their retirement years, she and Delton traveled the world, collecting memories and sharing adventures. A loyal Kansas City Royals fan, Donna spent many joyful evenings cheering on her team at Kauffman Stadium with Delton by her side.
Professionally, Donna served the State of Kansas with distinction, retiring in 1997 as the Marketing/Records & Reports Chief for the Alcoholic Beverage Control Division. Her life was guided by her Christian faith. She and Delton were charter members of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, where she faithfully volunteered in various ministries and activities. Her servant’s heart and devotion to the Lord were evident in all she did.
Donna is survived by her loving family: her two daughters, Kimberly Apps and Martha Neu Smith (Gary) and her son, David Neu (Shelly). She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Justin Bond, Sara Ray (Michael), and Joseph Neu; and a joyful great-grandmother to Ethan Ray. She is also survived by her six cherished siblings: Irene Kaff, Peggy Abney, Shirley Trchalek, Donald Sage, Gary Sage, and Bruce Sage.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Delton; and two brothers, Robert Sage and Marvin Sage.
A visitation will be held from 6:00–8:00 p.m. on Monday, July 28, 2025, at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home.
