Topeka

Donald James “Don” Weick, resident of Topeka, peacefully passed away at the age of 92 on Monday, April 6, 2026, at Midland Hospice House. Born on January 1, 1934, in Hamlin, Kansas, Don was a beloved son of James Allen and Gladys Opal (Hornbeck) Weick. He graduated from Fairview High School in 1952 and continued his studies at Highland Community College.

A devoted member of the Mater Dei parish, Don attended both Assumption and Holy Name Churches. He treasured the simple joys of fishing, nurturing his vegetable garden, and camping adventures in a travel trailer when his family was young. Don also delighted in crafting homemade ice cream and peanut brittle, sharing moments of sweetness with those he loved.

Don’s career journey began with the forestry department, after which he dedicated his talents to the City of Topeka’s Consumer Protection Department, serving as the Chief of Weights and Measures. His commitment to his community was evident in all he undertook.

On November 26, 1960, Don married his loving wife, Elizabeth Ann Banks, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Fidelity, Kansas. Together, they shared 65 wonderful years of marriage, a testament to their enduring love and partnership.

He is lovingly remembered by his children: Janet Couch and her husband Robert of Stephenville, TX; Sheila Gonzalez of Topeka, KS; Charlotte Bogner and her husband Thorsten of Pforzheim, Germany; Daniel Weick and his wife Susie of Topeka, KS; David Weick of Topeka, KS; and Kathy Belt and her husband John of Topeka, KS. Don also leaves behind his brother, Norman Weick of Topeka, KS, along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will carry forward his legacy of kindness and warmth.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Carol (Koelliker) Weick, who passed due to complications of childbirth; his son-in-law, John Gonzalez; and his sister-in-law, Betty Weick.

A visitation with family and friends will be from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 14, at Mater Dei Holy Name Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Topeka, KS.

In honor of Don’s generous spirit, memorial contributions should be made to Corita’s Corner Sandwich Ministry, sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Ave., Topeka, KS 66603.

Don’s life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, faith, and devotion, a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
