Delbert Edwin Guthrie, 90, of Topeka, passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at Plaza West Care Center.
He was born August 7, 1935, in Logans Fort, Indiana, the son of Orley Guthrie and Edith Pearl (Meyers) Guthrie. Delbert attended schools in Topeka, Kansas and graduated from Topeka High School.
Delbert served in the Kansas Army National Guard from 1953-1962, as a cook and in the 174th Military Police. He was the owner and operator of Guthrie and Sons Grocery Store in East Topeka and Topeka Bottoms for 60 years.
He enjoyed taking walks at the mall, reading the newspaper, watching and listening to the Kansas City Royals, dancing, cooking, and running the business. Delbert was the definition of a family man. He was a hard worker and was dedicated to his family, whether it was at the grocery store or family dinners where he would make tostadas, he loved spending time with them.
He married Carmen Galvan on April 24, 1998. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include his children, Tom Harral of Raytown, Missouri, Stacy Thowe and husband Glen of Topeka, Tina Harral of Kansas City, Kansas; 16 grandchildren, and brother, Bob Guthrie of Topeka.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Rebecca Padilla Gomez Guthrie; children, Misty Harral, Daniel Gomez, David Gomez, Christopher Gomez, Pedro Gomez; siblings, Margaret Robinson, Betty Bush, and Cyrus Guthrie.
The family will receive friends from 6:00pm-8:00pm, Friday, December 19, and a funeral service will be 1:00pm, Saturday, December 20, at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home. Inurnment with military honors will be 11:00am, Tuesday, December 23, at Memorial Park Cemetery.
