Daniel Arredondo Sr., lovingly known as “Dapper Dan”, 79, of Topeka, passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at his home.
He was born on November 2, 1946, in Topeka, where he was born and raised. A man known for his sharp style, warm spirit, and unforgettable presence, Daniel lived a life rooted in family, music, and connection.
In 1969, he married the love of his life, Jo (Serna) Arredondo. Together they built a marriage grounded in devotion and strength, creating a foundation that would grow into generations of family. He was a proud father to Daniel Arredondo Jr. and Cynthia Arredondo, and his love only deepened as his family grew.
Daniel was a devoted member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
He was truly a people person. Daniel never met a stranger — he loved to talk, to laugh, and to visit with anyone willing to share a moment. It didn’t matter who you were; he welcomed you with conversation and heart. He had a special tradition of giving nicknames to everyone he loved — his children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews alike. That was his way of making you feel chosen and known.
A natural jokester, Daniel brought laughter wherever he went. His humor, playful spirit, and storytelling created memories that will be repeated for generations. He loved all kinds of music and built an impressive collection of records and CDs over the years. Music filled his home and his heart. He loved to dance, sing, and enjoy the rhythm of life. You could often find him watching sports or listening to his favorite music, fully immersed and enjoying the moment. In his younger years, he played fast pitch softball, carrying his competitive spirit and love of teamwork onto the field.
He was a cherished grandfather to Ashly Llamas (Duane), Stephenie Ortiz, Marissa Arredondo, Marilena Dominguez, Marisol Dominguez, Marcella Dominguez, and Marcos Arredondo. His legacy continued to grow through his great-grandchildren: Ma’Elyzeveth Franco-Ortiz, Elene Franco-Ortiz, Ane Franco-Ortiz, Xavien Llamas, Ayden Sandoval, Mirella Juarez-Ortiz, Amoriel Dominguez, Jovani Rocha, Josani Nunez, Raymani Rodriguez, and Cielo Rocha.
He is also survived by his siblings: Manuel Arredondo Jr. (Delores), Juanita Lutz, Diana Morris (Joe), and Edward Arredondo (Laura).
Daniel was preceded in death by his father, Manuel Arredondo Sr.; his mother, Vicenta Arredondo; his sister, Margaret Lee; and two beloved great-grandchildren, Carla Dominguez-Ortiz and Paola Arredondo-Soto.
Daniel’s life was defined by love — love for his wife, his children, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his siblings, his extended family, his music, and every person he encountered. His legacy is one of strength, laughter, conversation, rhythm, and devotion to family.
Though he may no longer be physically present, his voice, his jokes, his music, and his spirit will live on in every gathering, every dance, and every shared memory.
He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
The family will receive friends from 4:00pm to 8:00pm, with a rosary prayed at 6:00pm, Wednesday, March 4, at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am, Thursday, March 5, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
Memorial contributions should be made to Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Ave. Topeka, KS 66603.
