Long time resident of Morton County, Kansas, Charles Franklin Hull, 75, of Lawrence, Kansas, passed away on Monday, January 5, 2026, at LMH Health in Lawrence. Throughout the years there is a strong possibility that he touched your life in some way. Perhaps you were in need of the fire department, emergency medical services, a plumbing crisis, or just a friend to lend a helping hand. Maybe you came before him in Rolla Municipal Court, where he served as judge from October of 1988 through April of 2015.
He was born March 7, 1950, near Rolla in Morton County, Kansas, to George Herbert Hull Sr. and Fairy Alice (Ipson) Hull. Charles graduated from Rolla High School in 1968.
Charles enjoyed working with his brothers in a cattle operation for many years. He operated a plumbing business mostly in Morton and Stanton counties, but you might also see him working in neighboring Colorado or Oklahoma. He served as Morton County Fire Chief from 1999 to 2015 and also volunteered with Morton County EMS for several years.
He enjoyed driving around checking on cattle and fences, watching “Gunsmoke”, and in his younger years going on hunting trips to Colorado with his brothers-in-law, Dick Hoskinson, Milford Rankin, and Bob Hunter. There were several nephews that would tag along from time to time. He also enjoyed following the rodeo circuit with numerous family members.
Charles married Jean Ann Drew on March 10, 1984, at the Cimarron River in Morton County. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include his children, Melissa Lloyd and husband Josh of Lawrence, Kansas, Christopher Hull of Albuquerque, New Mexico; grandchildren, Grace Schulte, Lawson Lloyd, and Brayden Lloyd of Lawrence, Kansas; siblings, Joy Rankin of Wilburton, Kansas, Peggy Hoskinson of Hugoton, Kansas, Robin Hull of Rolla, Kansas, Alicia Wray of Richfield, Kansas, Philip Hull of Rolla, Kansas; sisters-in-law, Rose Hull of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Nancy Hull of Rolla, Kansas; brother-in-law, Charles Drew and wife Zelda, of Eagle Nest, New Mexico.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Lloyd Hull, Pearl Hunter, Larry Hull, George Hull Jr; and brothers-in-law; Dick Hoskinson, Milford Rankin, Bob Hunter.
Cremation has taken place in accordance with Charles’ wishes. A memorial service is planned for February 9, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Dermot School in Morton County, Kansas.
