Carolina L. Hernandez

Carolina L. Hernandez, 71, of Topeka, passed away March 24, 2019 at Plaza West Nursing Home. Carol was born on August 24, 1947 in Topeka, Kansas. Daughter of Richard and Delores Balandran Vega.

Carol graduated from Hayden High School in 1965 where she then attended Washburn University. She later married Alfonso Hernandez in Topeka on January 22, 1998. Carol worked as a legal assistant/secretary for most of her life. She was also a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, where she served on the Royalty Committee for the Fiesta candidates. She also sang in the church choir and loved to garden and be outside whenever she could. Carol was an avid KU Jayhawks fan as well. Cheering them on whenever she could. She was also an amazing cook. Her family will never forget the amazing enchiladas that were prepared for them.

Carol is preceded in death by both of her parents, sister Rita Pierce; brothers, Paul Galindo and Fernando Galindo; grandparents, Panfilo and Urbana Balandran and Juan and Antonia Vega.

She is survived by her husband Alfonso of 31 years; sons, Orlando “Paul” (Dawn) Cisneros and Christopher (Michelle) Cisneros; sisters, Teresa (Antonio) Galvan, Conception Roberts, Mary Jones, Clara Guerin, and Rachelle Vega-Retana and Rosalinda Granado, Susana (Hector) Flores; brother Joseph Llamas; grandchildren, Nathaniel Cisneros, Payton Cisneros, and Isaiah Cisneros; great granddaughter; and her cousin Diana Ortega; as well as a host of extended family that she treasured dearly.

Visitation will be will be Thursday, March 28, 2019 at Brennan Mathena Funeral Home from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Rosary will be at 6:00 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, March 29, 2019 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Topeka.
