Brett A. Washburn, 47, of Gardner, passed away on Friday, March 20, 2026, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born April 27, 1978, in Junction City, Kansas, to Gerald and Linda (Winters) Washburn.

Brett graduated from Raytown High School in 1996. He worked as an I.T. Help Desk Support Supervisor with Williams Lea at Shook, Hardy, & Bacon Law Firm since 2003.

He enjoyed traveling for work and pleasure, meeting new people and making friends wherever he went. He was a dedicated Kansas City Chiefs and Royals fan, and a season ticket holder for the Chiefs with his brother for many years. He also loved NASCAR and traveled all over the country with his brother for races. Brett was an avid sports fan, no matter the sport. Brett loved cars and trucks, dogs, and was always up for fun. Brett enjoyed going to Branson to catch shows and being with family. During Ethan and Kinsley’s school year, you could find Brett in the crowd cheering, attending most all their athletic events.

Survivors include a daughter, Makenzie Moore and husband Ross of Edgerton; aunt and uncle; Mary and Charlie Winters of Topeka, Kansas; cousins, Matt Winters and Danielle of Americus, Kansas, Adam Winters and wife Dawn of Topeka, Kansas, Regina Brown of Junction City, Kansas; second cousins, Ethan Winters of Topeka, Kansas, Kinsley Winters of Topeka, Kansas, Ashley Brumm of Junction City, Kansas; as well as other cousins and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Jerrell Washburn.

Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of Brett’s life will be held on March 30, 2026, at 2 p.m., at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Ave. Topeka, Kansas 66603.
