Betty F. Wells

Betty F. Wells, 79, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.

She was born on February 22, 1946, in Iowa, the daughter of Eldon and Leona (Murran) Templeton. After high school, Betty attended college before discovering her true passion in cosmetology. She went on to own and operate the Ozawkie Beauty Salon, where her kindness, creativity, and care for others left a lasting impression on every client she served.

On February 17, 1968, Betty married the love of her life, Edwin A. Wells, in Villisca, Iowa. Together, they shared 33 wonderful years of marriage before Ed’s passing in 2001.

Betty found joy in many simple pleasures, researching her family’s genealogy, creating ceramics, and playing the piano and string instruments. She loved being outdoors, whether fishing, gardening, or canning the fruits of her labor. Family meant everything to her and her big smile and laughter was always present during gatherings and reunions. Summer visits to Iowa were among her favorite memories while visiting family. Above all, her steadfast Catholic faith guided her life and brought her peace.

She is survived by her son, Shad Austin Wells and his wife Donna of Meriden; daughter, Teresa Marie Wells of Tecumseh; and a son that was always near and dear to her heart; six grandchildren, Malina Rocha-Foley (Sean), Tiarra Fisher (Max), Avren Wells, Austin Wells (Cassie), Joshua Wells (Jonae), and Kaylee Wells. Other survivors include her great-grandchildren, Arianna Williams, Herrisean Foley, Finn Fisher, and Brynlee Wells; as well as her two sisters, Joyce Shoemaker and Dorothy Dillie.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edwin Wells; sister, Juanita Marshall and brother, Glenn Templeton.

A rosary will be prayed at 6:00 P.M., with a visitation to follow until 8:00 P.M., on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M., on Friday, October 24, at Mater Dei Holy Name Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Prairie Home Cemetery.
