Barbara J. Rhoads

Barbara Joan Rhoads, 86, of Topeka, passed away on February 18, 2021 at her home.

She was born in rural Burlington, Kansas on November 19, 1934 the daughter of Lawrence V. and Verna O. (Kellum) Brosemer.

Barbara was a Surgical Technician for Dr. Choy a Urologist at St. Francis Hospital where she worked for 20 years.  She and her husband also owned and operated Wadsworth Antiques.

She enjoyed reading, art, antiques and especially spending time with her family.  Barbara was a member of Mater Dei Holy Name Catholic Church.

She married Frederick A. Rhoads in Strong City, Kansas on August 5, 1950.  He preceded her in death on May 16, 2008.  Barbara is survived by her children, Michael (Christine) Rhoads of Lake Wabaunsee, Kansas, Robert (Amy) Rhoads, Janet (Thomas) Johnson, and Frederick (Carole) Rhoads Jr. all of Topeka, 12 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and 7 great great grandchildren.  She is also survived by her siblings, Patricia Rodriguez, Catherine Louise Spangler, and Larry Dean Brosemer.  She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Winifred Ann Eastwood and a brother, Steven Brosemer.

Barbara will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m.   Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at Mater Dei Holy Name Catholic Church.  Graveside services will be in the Lebo Creek Cemetery in Lebo, Kansas at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon.
