Aurora (Galvan) Cowing, affectionally known as “Cookie,” age 75, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at McCrite Plaza in Topeka.
She was born the daughter of Basilio H. Galvan, Sr., and Maria (Tabares) Galvan on September 20, 1949, in Topeka, KS. Aurora attended Lincoln Grade School, East Topeka Jr. High School and graduated from Topeka High School.
She spent much of her working career with Southwestern Bell (AT&T) working as a drafting clerk. She also worked in medical records for St. Francis Hospital. Aurora’s faith was dear to her heart as in her younger years, she was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and most recently a member at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. She was active in both parishes and always willing to volunteer her time to the church.
Aurora was a social butterfly, always enjoying interactions with friends and family. She excelled at sewing-crafting beautiful clothes and blankets, as well as baking, cooking, and dancing. With her love of books, you could find her reading her favorite novel. Spending time with her son and grandchildren brought her the greatest joy.
Survivors include her beloved son, Jason Sullivan and his wife Elisabeth; her three cherished grandchildren, Payton Rice, Brody and Aurora Sullivan. Other survivors include her brother, Basilio “Basil” Galvan, Jr. and his wife Cecilia; as well as her sister, Rachel Sangalang; and a loving extended family.
Aurora was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Richard Sullivan; her second husband, David Cowing; brother, Antonio “Tony” Galvan; as well as two sisters, Irene and Dolores Galvan.
She will lie in state from 5-8:00 P.M., with a rosary being prayed at 6:00 P.M., on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M., on Friday, July 18, at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
Memorial contributions can be made in Aurora’s memory to Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church and/or School in care of the funeral home.
