Art Joseph Meier

Art Joseph Meier, 81, of Topeka, passed away, Saturday, July 25, 2026, at his home.

He was born December 15, 1944, in Topeka, the son of Sylvester Anthony and Marie Teresa (Krische) Meier.

Art attended St. Joseph Catholic grade school and graduated from Hayden High School in 1963.

He was a farmer and took great pride in his work. He was a devoted member of Sacred Heart/St. Joseph parish, participating in nocturnal adoration, and volunteering at Germanfest in the beer garden. He was also a past member of Knights of Columbus.

Art’s greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed traveling to Hawaii and Colorado with his wife Ann.

He married Ann Colette Sutter on November 4, 1967, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Topeka. They have shared 59 years together. Ann survives of the home.

Other survivors include his children, Tim Meier and wife Denise, Todd Meier and wife Debi, Lisa Bazin and husband Joey, Cristina Fanning and husband Chris Brown; siblings, Teresa Reeb, Sylvia Graham and husband Tom, Robert Meier, Bernadine Hack, Mike Meier and wife Sherry, Mary Grace and husband John; 14 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren, with one on the way.

Art was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Angela Ackerman who was married to Brian Ackerman at the time of her passing survives; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Meier; and brother-in-laws, Bob Hack and Bill Reeb.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 30, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church from 5:00pm-8:00pm, with a rosary prayed at 6:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am, Friday, July 31, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Prairie Home Cemetery.
