Antonia Hidalgo

On Thursday, June 12, 2025, Antonia “Toni” Hidalgo, 94, of Topeka, passed away peacefully with her family by her side, at her home. She was born June 13, 1930, in Fairbury, Nebraska, daughter of Nieves Munoz and Alberta (Ruiz) Munoz, and stepdaughter of Frank Conrekas.

At the age of 18, Toni moved to Topeka to be a nanny. She was later employed by the University of Kansas Hospital St. Francis Campus as a housekeeper, and then at Stormont Vail Health. She worked her way up to Supervisor of housekeeping and stayed there until retirement.

Toni loved spending time with her grandchildren, traveling in her early years, shopping, and going to concerts & musical festivals. Vincente was her all-time favorite singer. One of her many talents included crocheting, which she loved making gifts and blankets for all the grandbabies, family and friends.

On January 26, 1956, Toni married Arnie Hidalgo in Topeka, and they celebrated 52 years together, before his passing in 2009. They were blessed with nine children, Roseann and husband Phillip, Roman and wife Mayela, Arlene and husband Johnny Ray, James, Alec, Loraine and partner Tony, Eva and husband Jon, and Alicia and husband Mario. Toni is survived by a sister-in-law, Maria Antusis; her 20 grandchildren, and 39 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by husband Arnie on January 9, 2009, and daughter Phyllis Munoz on October 30, 1989.

On Wednesday, June 18, 2005, the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00pm, with a rosary prayed at 6:00pm, at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10:00am, Thursday, June 19, 2025, conducted by Pastor David Deck at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery-Topeka.
