Anna M. Chavez, age 66, of Topeka, KS, passed away surrounded by the warmth and love of her family on Tuesday, May 13, 2025.
Born on August 14, 1958, in Topeka, KS, Anna was the cherished daughter of Jerry H. and Barbara L. (Gamba) Estes. She was a proud 1976 graduate of Hayden High School.
On September 12, 1981, Anna married the love of her life, James “Jimmy” Chavez, at Holy Name Catholic Church. Their union was a beautiful testament to unwavering love and devotion, and together they built a home that radiated warmth, faith, and family.
Anna was the heart and soul of her family, the matriarch who held everyone close. She was the glue that kept everyone together — a loving wife, devoted mother, and a doting “Nonna” who adored her grandchildren with all her heart. She filled her home with warm hugs, kind words, and the sweet scent of her cooking, always ready to lend a listening ear and share her boundless love.
A pillar of strength and light, Anna was known for her positivity, her welcoming spirit, and her infectious smile that could light up any room. She had a heart big enough for everyone, offering comfort, guidance, and unconditional love to her family and friends.
Anna worked for many years at Commerce Bank, where her kind nature and genuine compassion left a lasting impression on all who knew her. She was a faithful member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, where her faith and community were of utmost importance. She also served on the Fiesta Committee, pouring her love into every detail.
She was an avid Chiefs fan, cheering on her team with as much fervor as she did her family. Anna was also a fiercely dedicated mother to not only her children but to many who came through her door, each receiving the same warmth, care, and unwavering support.
Anna leaves behind her husband, James “Jimmy” Chavez; her children, Mario James Chavez (Ashley), Dominic Michael Chavez, and Luisa Chavez; her precious grandchildren, Jade, Marley, Vincent, Giovanni, Sebastian, and Nora Chavez; her father, Jerry Estes; her siblings, “Tony” John Estes (Sharon), Joe Estes (Vicki), Regina “Gina” Estes (Drew Woods), and Suzanne Estes; and her best friend and chosen sister, Rita Bennett.
She was welcomed into Heaven by her mother, Barbara Estes, both sets of grandparents, and numerous aunts and uncles who preceded her in death.
Anna will lie in state from 4:00-8:00 P.M., with a rosary being prayed at 6:30 P.M., on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M., on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
