Angel Martinez-Hernandez, age 76, of Topeka, KS, passed away with this loving family by his side on Tuesday, February 21, 2023.

He was born the son of Vicente and Soledad (Hernadez) Martinez on March 18, 1946, in Tampico, Tamaulipas, Mexico. On January 23, 1968, 

Angel married Ignacia Cerca in Tampico. Together, they shared 55 years of loving marriage.

Angel will be remembered for his impeccable dancing skills, wide assortment of Christmas decorations (Santa Claus figurines) and his quick wit. He always had a funny saying and was the king of “one liners.” In his spare time, he enjoyed playing bingo, going to the casino and watching his favorite game shows, “The Price is Right,” and “Wheel of Fortune.” He was an avid soccer fan and always cheered for his favorite team, Leon. Angel’s greatest joy was his family. He was a proud husband that loved and adored his beloved wife, Ignacia. Angel was a good-hearted man with a loving nature. He worked hard, enjoyed life, and cherished his family and friends. They were blessed by the years they had with him. He will be dearly missed but not forgotten.

Survivors include his loving wife, Ignacia Martinez; eight children, Maria S. Pantoja (Miguel), Griselda Martinez, Angel A. Martinez (Lydia), Flor Martinez, Alma E. Martinez, Nidia G. Martinez, Linda M. Martinez-Rivera (Juan P. Rivera, Sr.), and Angeles Escobar (Carlos); 30 grandchildren, Crystal Garcia, Vicente Martinez, Alicia Martinez, Javier Martinez, David Alvarado, Joey Alvarado, Angel Alvarado, Mario Alvarado, Jaime Alvarado, Milagro Alvarado, Saida Martinez, Augustin Martinez, Yesenia Beasley, Gustavo Moreno, Phillip Wade, Maikol Acosta, Melani Acosta, Carlos Acosta, Cataleya Acosta, Jacob Acosta, Juan Martinez, Yadira Martinez, Britney Martinez, Osvaldo Acosta, Anthony Acosta, Eduardo Acosta, Gonzalo Acosta, Juan P. Rivera, Jayleen Rivera, Jzahbel Rivera; as well as 28 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter, Dalaysa Soleil.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Kaleb Acosta; two great-grandsons, Daniel Alejandro Martinez, Diego Axel Nunez; and one brother, Miguel Martinez-Hernandez.

He will lie in state from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., on Monday, February 27, 2023, with a Parish Rosary at 6:00 P.M., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M., on Tuesday, February 28, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery-Topeka.

Memorial contributions can be made in Angel's memory to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Contributions can be mailed or left with the funeral home.

Angel Martinez-Hernandez, de 76 años, de Topeka, KS, falleció con esta amorosa familia a su lado el martes 21 de febrero de 2023.

Nació el hijo de Vicente y Soledad (Hernadez) Martínez el 18 de marzo de 1946, en Tampico, Tamaulipas, México. El 23 de enero de 1968, Ángel se casó con Ignacia Cerca en Tampico. Juntos compartieron 55 años de amoroso matrimonio.

Angel será recordado por sus impecables habilidades de baile, su amplia variedad de adornos navideños (figuritas de Papá Noel) y su ingenio rápido. Siempre tenía un dicho gracioso y era el rey de las frases ingeniosas. En su tiempo libre, disfrutaba jugar al bingo, ir al casino y ver sus programas de juegos favoritos, "El precio es correcto" y "La rueda de la fortuna". Era un ávido fanático del fútbol y siempre animaba a su equipo favorito, León. La mayor alegría de Ángel era su familia. Era un esposo orgulloso que amaba y adoraba a su amada esposa, Ignacia. Ángel era un hombre de buen corazón con una naturaleza amorosa. Trabajó duro, disfrutó de la vida y apreciaba a su familia y amigos. Fueron bendecidos por los años que tuvieron con él. Se le echará mucho de menos pero no se le olvidará.

Los sobrevivientes incluyen a su amada esposa, Ignacia Martínez; ocho hijos, Maria S. Pantoja (Miguel), Griselda Martinez, Angel A. Martinez (Lydia), Flor Martinez, Alma E. Martinez, Nidia G. Martinez, Linda M. Martinez-Rivera (Juan P. Rivera, Sr.) , y Ángeles Escobar (Carlos); 30 nietos, Crystal Garcia, Vicente Martinez, Alicia Martinez, Javier Martinez, David Alvarado, Joey Alvarado, Angel Alvarado, Mario Alvarado, Jaime Alvarado, Milagro Alvarado, Saida Martinez, Augustine Martinez, Yesenia Beasley, Gustavo Moreno, Phillip Wade, Maikol Acosta , Melani Acosta, Carlos Acosta, Cataleya Acosta, Jacob Acosta, Juan Martinez, Yadira Martinez, Britney Martinez, Osvaldo Acosta, Anthony Acosta, Eduardo Acosta, Gonzalo Acosta, Juan P. Rivera, Jayleen Rivera, Jyzhabel Rivera; así como 28 bisnietos y una tataranieta, Dalaysa Soleil.

Le precedieron en la muerte sus padres; nieto, Kaleb Acosta; dos bisnietos, Daniel Alejandro Martínez, Diego Axel Núñez; y un hermano, Miguel Martinez-Hernandez.

Permanecerá en estado desde las 4:00 p.m. a las 8:00 p. m., el lunes 27 de febrero de 2023, con un Rosario Parroquial a las 6:00 p. m., en la Iglesia Católica Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe.

La misa de cristiana sepultura se celebrará a las 10:00 a.m., el martes 28 de febrero, en la Iglesia Católica Our Lady of Guadalupe. El entierro seguirá en Mt. Calvary Cemetery-Topeka.

Se pueden hacer contribuciones conmemorativas en memoria de Ángel a la Iglesia Católica de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe. Las contribuciones pueden enviarse por correo o dejarse en la funeraria.
