Alice Valdez

Alice Valdez, 94, of Topeka, passed away on Monday, June 2, 2025, at her home.

She was born September 21, 1930, in Topeka, to Panfilo Toledo and Jacinta (Lopez) Toledo. Alice attended Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic School and was a lifelong member of the church. She was involved in LULAC, the Altar Society, and participated with Adoration.

She enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, reading, and cooking. In her younger years she liked to go fishing, camping, and traveling to Colorado.

Alice worked in the dietary department at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital.

She married Raymond Valdez, on April 16, 1952, in Topeka. He died January 28, 2022.

Survivors include her five children, Rita A. Hinterwiger of Topeka, Gloria Adame of Topeka, Veronica Plakio and husband Kimo of Topeka, Angela Dougan and husband William of Topeka, and Ronald Valdez and wife Jacquline of Topeka; sisters, Ophelia Ortiz of Topeka and Angie Serrano of Topeka; 19 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; and 26 great- great grandchildren.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant daughter, Elosia Valdez; siblings, Leonard Toledo, Tony Toledo, Margaret Lopez, Esperanza Barajas, Virginia Toledo; and son in law, Michael Adame.

A rosary will be prayed at 5:30pm, with a visitation from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, Tuesday, June 10, at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am, Wednesday, June 11, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery-Topeka.
