Alice Martinez Slater

Alice Martinez Slater, age 64, of Topeka, KS, passed away with her family by her side on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at the Midland Hospice House.

She was born the daughter of Simon and Antonia (Padilla) on November 17, 1961, in Topeka, KS. Alice worked for 40 plus years as a dedicated employee with the Kansas Department of Revenue. Her career enabled her to create many lifelong relationships with her colleagues, and she was passionate about her career.

On April 5, 1985, Alice met Gregory “Greg” Slater and on June 29, 2002, they married and shared a loving marriage and bond for 40 years. Together, they enjoyed trips to the casino, spending time together and making memories.

In her spare time, Alice loved to garden, being creative with crafts, and cheering for the KU Jayhawks and KC Chiefs. She will be remembered as a great cook, especially her enchiladas and always putting her family first. Her life was centered around her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her loving extended family.

Survivors include her beloved husband, Greg Slater; son, Tony Martinez and his wife Dana; daughter, Megan Anderson and her husband Justin; son, Matthew Slater and his wife Katy; 10 grandchildren, Payton, Jakob, Kaleb, Taryn, Gracyn, Angel, Collin, Cole, Kaylee, and Maddox; as well as her six great-grandchildren, Sophia, Remington, Jackson, Rheyna, Clara, and Kinsley. Other survivors include her cherished siblings that include one brother, Leo Martinez and his wife Kitty; four sisters, Cecilia Galvan and her husband Basil, Cathy Blackwell and her significant other Randy Reser, Paula Talbert, and Marguerita Essman; and special aunt, Juanita Padilla; and an uncle, Louie Padilla. Alice leaves behind Stella-her beloved cat.

Visitation with viewing will be held from 4-8:00 P.M., with a rosary being prayed at 6:00 P.M., on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home. Cremation will follow after the visitation.
