Alfred Sauseda, age 79, of Topeka, KS, passed away on Monday, October 14, 2024, at the Colmery-O’Neil VAMC in Topeka.
Alfred was born the son of Alfredo and Pauline (Escobar) Sauseda on February 16, 1945, in Topeka, KS. He grew up in Chicago, IL. After high school, Alfred joined the United States Marine Corps in 1963 and was honorably discharged in 1967, serving during the Vietnam War.
On October 25, 1969, Alfred married his beloved sweetheart, Florencia Huerta in Chicago, IL. Together, they shared almost 55 years of marriage. They lived briefly in Texas and made their way back and settled in Topeka. He retired from KPL (Evergy) and in early years, held various positions with one being a Reserve Police Officer with the City of Topeka.
Alfred will be remembered for his love of astronomy and his daily weather reports to his family. He enjoyed his beloved Chicago Bears, cooking, drawing and painting. He was proud of his military service, but his greatest joy was his family especially his favorite (only grandchild), Jaelyn Sauseda.
Survivors include his wife, Florencia Sauseda; daughter, Regina Sauseda; two sons, Jonathan and Esteban Sauseda; as well as his granddaughter, Jaeyln Sauseda. Other survivors include his two sisters, Carmella Rubio of Downers Grove, IL, and Delores Garza of Glen Ellyn, IL; and a loving extended family.
Alfred was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Pablo, Erocio, and Ruben Sauseda.
Alfred will lie in state from 9-10:30 A.M., on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 A.M., at the church. Burial with military honors will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery-Topeka.
Memorial contributions can be made in Alfred 's memory to the American Cancer Society and/or Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home to help defray funeral expenses. Contributions can be left or mailed to the funeral home.
